Digital Transformation of the Oil and Gas Industry in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug: A Step Toward Technological Sovereignty.

The Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug is known for its abundant hydrocarbon reserves. It is no surprise that it has become a key hub for integrating domestic digital solutions into the oil and gas industry.

At the 17th International IT Forum, held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Yugra Governor Ruslan Kukharuk reported on the region’s achievements in digital transformation. According to him, local oil and gas companies have transitioned nearly 100% of the solutions used in hydrocarbon production to domestic software. This, he noted, suggests that the level of technological sovereignty in oil production has reached 95%.

Kukharuk emphasized that digitalization and the innovation-driven economy are inextricably linked concepts. In today’s world, where technology is advancing rapidly, oil and gas companies face the need to adapt to new realities. Modern solutions, such as the digitization of fields and the use of software for the economic evaluation of drilling operations, are becoming key tools for improving production efficiency.

Yugra is one of the largest oil-producing regions in the Russian Federation. More than 70% of the budget of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug is generated by revenue from oil production. Amid global economic changes and sanctions pressure, the transition to domestic digital solutions is becoming a strategically important step toward ensuring the region’s sustainability and independence.
