Anniversary Synthesis 2026: Oil and Gas Chemistry and Technological Independence

Synthesis 2026: Implementing the Priorities of Russia’s Energy Strategy.

The Petrochemical and Refining Congress: Synthesis takes place on 28-29 September 2026 in Sochi. Over the past 10 years, the Congress has become a major industry event in Russia and the CIS, bringing together experts to discuss the transition from exporting crude oil and gas towards maximising hydrocarbon processing within the country.

The government has approved a key strategic document – the Energy Strategy of Russia up to 2050, in which the development of oil and gas chemistry is defined as a state priority. The strategy focuses on increasing the depth of processing and expanding the output of high value-added products, alongside modernising refineries and strengthening the industry’s technological independence. According to the Government of the Russian Federation, the strategic objective is to ensure the sustainable development of the domestic energy sector through efficient use of hydrocarbon resources, while maintaining global competitiveness.

This priority forms the basis of the Synthesis 2026 agenda, aimed at coordinating efforts between leading representatives of business and science. The Congress gathers major sector companies – Gazprom Neft, SIBUR, NIS Oil refinery Pančevo, along with industry associations and government organisations, including SIBUR Digital, INTI, the Centre for Development of the Production System in the Chemical Complex and the Federal Institute of Industrial Property. The professional community discusses the transition towards petrochemicals and oil and gas chemistry:

  • Ilya Blinov (GIPH) shares experience in establishing industrial chemical production facilities;
  • Ratmir Dashkin (Technology Operator) highlights the link between small-scale chemistry and the oil and gas sector;
  • Ilya Mazov (Engineering Chemical and Technological Centre) analyses key petrochemical processing stages as a feedstock base for product manufacturing;
  • Dmitry Borisanov (Slavneft-YANOS) speaks on non-freezing Arctic diesel fuel.

Technological independence, advancement of oil and gas refining and digital transformation are reflected across all thematic sections of the business programme. The Congress sessions combine both applied industrial solutions and broader sector transformation. At Synthesis 2025, Mikhail Nikulin (Gazpromneft Industrial Innovations) noted that the Congress does not avoid strategic development issues, but rather serves as an effective event for forming a unified position covering both operational and strategic agendas.

For a decade, Synthesis has aligned the interests of government, the scientific community and industry companies, supporting a systematic approach to the modernisation of the sector.
