Gazprom and Uniper discuss gas supplies and Nord Stream 2
A working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Andreas Schierenbeck, Chairman of the Management Board of Uniper, took place in Russia.
The parties reviewed a wide range of issues related to bilateral cooperation, including gas supplies and the Nord Stream 2 project.
Uniper SE is an energy company focused on natural gas, power generation, and global energy trading. Gazprom and Uniper cooperate in gas supplies and transportation and implement joint scientific & technical and social & cultural programs.
Nord Stream 2 is the construction project for a gas pipeline with the annual capacity of 55 billion cubic meters from Russia to Germany across the Baltic Sea. In 2017, Nord Stream 2 AG signed agreements with ENGIE, OMV, Shell, Uniper, and Wintershall to provide financing for 50 % of the total cost of the project.
The Nord Stream 2 pipeline has provoked deep divisions within the EU. Poland is one of the project's fiercest critics, arguing that it will deepen European dependence on Russian gas. Poland's Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has imposed a fine of almost $45 million on Engie Energy for failing to provide information on the Nord Stream 2 project.
